The Marine Band has been Hohner's most popular model of harmonica for generations. It also has some tuning variations like the 1896N (natural minor key) and the 1896H (harmonic minor key). Technically named the Marine Band 1896/20 for the year it was introduced and the twenty reeds it possesses, it has been the basis of a number of Hohner's harmonicas over the years. "The Marine Band" is the base model of the line.

The roots of the Hohner firm are in Trossingen, Baden-Württemberg. KG is a German manufacturer of musical instruments, founded in 1857 by Matthias Hohner (1833–1902). All in all it's in great shape for its age and it will deliver the tone.Hohner Musikinstrumente GmbH & Co. It does have some light scratches and pick marks but only the typical ones found on a guitar of this age. There are a couple of very small ones on the body. The most prominent one is at the top of the headstock. In terms of cosmetics, it does have a few dings. My guess would be it's a Schaller but I cannot confirm this. It is a locking system and seems to be made really well. Yet with the slide of the volume knob it cleans up nicely. This guitar could easily pull off a Blizzard of Oz tune with no problem. The added touches, like the Star inlays on the fretboard, are great! The pickups are Select Designed by EMG and they rock! The 80's sound is fully covered in these pups. They did make some mediocre guitars however their Professional line was top notch and made with better tone woods, pickups and components. I mean Paul McCartney played a Hohner Bass. In contrary to what some may believe Hohner actually made some excellent guitars. From the limited information I have found, they were made in the early to mid-Eighties. These guitars are found more in Europe, although still in small numbers. The Hohner Pro SG Lion is kind of rare in the USA.
